Frequent recipients for Interac e-Transfer
A small, self-initiated concept for the Wealthsimple app
Type Unofficial concept
Role Product design, prototyping, motion
Platform iOS
The moment
I send Interac e-Transfers to the same few people again and again: rent, family, a friend I split costs with. Each time I open e-Transfer, tap Search and type the same name. It’s a small step, but it’s the same one every time.
Today
Move → e-Transfer → the Send e-Transfer screen: a search field, a “Contacts” heading with “+ New”, and an alphabetical list of every saved contact. To pay someone, you search or scroll.
The idea
When you tap Search, show your most frequent recipients (up to 3) under the field, before you type anything. Tap one and you go straight to the amount screen.
What stays the same
The screen looks exactly as it does today until you tap Search.
“+ New”, the full contact list and search-by-typing all still work.
Picking a person only opens the amount screen. Review and confirm stay as they are, and nothing is sent automatically.
How I got there
I explored six directions: a horizontal avatar row, a compact list, a “Send again” card, frequent suggestions shown only when you tap Search, user-pinned favourites, and a hybrid. I chose the “shown when you tap Search” option because it changes nothing at rest, never gets in the way of paying someone new, and appears exactly when you’re looking for someone. “Frequent” means the people you’ve sent to most often recently, not just the last person, so a one-off payment doesn’t show up.
What I’d want to learn
I’m one user among many, and Wealthsimple knows its customers far better than I do. With real data I’d want to know how often people search vs scroll vs add someone new, and how often the person they pick is one of their top 3.
A small idea from a happy user. The team is doing great work.
